🧮 Data Processing Explanation

This visualization shows a spectral index analysis derived from Sentinel-2 satellite data:

Spectral indices are calculated using the normalized difference formula on Sentinel-2 multispectral bands:

$$\text{Index} = \frac{ B08 - B06 }{ B08 + B06 + 0.00001}$$

Processing Pipeline

  • Cloud Masking: OmniCloudMask identifies cloud and shadow pixels, which are excluded from calculations
  • Spectral Calculation: Normalized difference computed server-side in PostgreSQL on valid (non-masked) pixels only
  • Geographic Clipping: Results clipped to Gaza Strip boundary (EPSG:32636 UTM Zone 36N)
  • Colorization: Values mapped to black-to-orange colormap; masked areas shown in neon blue

Color Mapping

  • Black → Orange Valid spectral index values
  • #0080FF Cloud/shadow masked areas
  • Transparent Areas outside Gaza
