Khan Younis Governorate is located in the southern Gaza Strip and, at approximately 108 square kilometers, is the Strip’s largest governorate by land area. Before October 7, 2023, it was home to approximately 426,000 people. Its capital and principal city is Khan Younis, the second-largest urban center in the Gaza Strip. Surrounding communities include Abasan al-Kabira, Bani Suheila, and Khuza’a. The Khan Younis refugee camp is located just west of the city.
