Rafah: Satellite Imagery
Rafah Governorate is the Gaza Strip’s southernmost administrative division, covering approximately 65 square kilometers along the Egyptian border. Before October 7, 2023, it was home to approximately 268,000 people. Its capital and primary urban center is the city of Rafah, situated directly adjacent to the border. The governorate also contains the Rafah refugee camp and the site of the now-disused Yasser Arafat International Airport. The Rafah Border Crossing, at the southern edge of the governorate, has historically served as Gaza’s primary crossing not controlled by Israel.
Sentinel-Bird maintains an open archive of Sentinel-2 imagery covering Rafah Governorate continuously from before and throughout the current conflict, freely available for download.
